Music and Cholesterol
23-year-old Indian, Abhinav Bindra, has whipped up the country to a frenzied excitement by winning an Olympic Gold. Indian supporters almost closed their eyes to a nerve wrecking climax, fearing that they were dreaming too big. But the boy from Delhi lived up to their expectations and the expectations of his coach through determination and sheer hard work. Abhinav believes that the fact that his experience of being in the sport for ten years and the fact that it was his day made a great difference because he did no more and no less than the other days. Whatever the magical formula, it has done wonders. Congratulations, young man and congratulations, India!
Sad State of Affairs
The Tughlakabad Shooting Centre, supposedly India's showpiece shooting facility, was set up in to help produce champion shooters. Abhinav hardly used the facility because his own backyard at the farm was better. Officials realise that Abhinav's affluence has helped him get his own facilities to win the medal. Now they are talking about upgrading the centre and establishing similar centres all over the country. How long will this wisdom last? Probably till the end of the Olympics? While other countries are talking about support from the government and training facilities, we still have to rely on our own personal resources. For us, it's cricket, cricket..all the way!
