As an adult, some outgrow poetry, but rhymes have always fascinated children. If you have a young child, then Poetry Speaks to Children is a book that could probably engage your child and get him into the skills of language learning and development, without you or him realising it. The collection of 100 poems is targeted at very young readers, children ideally the age of 6. No doubt, children cannot read by themselves at this age, so there is an accompanying CD that has the authors reading their work. There is a rich variety of voices since 73 people have read the poems.

Variety

The book is packed with variety, with poets like Emily Dickinson, Carl Sandburg and Tolkien. There is so much variety and music that even a two year old can appreciate the poems and the rhymes. The poems conjure up a lot of images in the child's mind, making it both entertaining and educative. There are poems like The Tiger who Wore White Gloves and The Dentist and the Crocodile. The attractive illustrations are a treat for any child!
