After 70 years, the saga of Batman will probably be over. Morrison, the writer of the Batman comics in recent times, says that he has not decided how the end is to come. The possibilities range from a gruesome end at the hands of Robin who betrays him and decides to move to the other side, to retiring or being killed by an unknown but powerful villain.
Replacement
It is not known whether the immortal hero will be replaced. If Robin does not move on to the villainous world, he could don the mantle of Batman. Superman too died a (short) death in 1992 and the comic was a super success. However, he was resurrected by readers who felt that the hero needed to live. Chances are that the same thing could happen to this super hero too. Writers do use their imagination to create characters but readers give them a larger than life personality and hence they never want them to die.
