Ann E Dunwoody has done the near impossible after being in the US army for 33 years. The General herself is surprised at the elevation that she has got in a male dominated profession. As a child, she had wanted to raise a family and perhaps become a teacher of physical education. Not in her wildest dreams did she ever think of rising to this rank! More surprised than her is her husband, the man behind the successful woman!

Hard Work and Commitment

Mothers and daughters in the States see the promotion as a promise that the future holds out for women. The army has about 14% women and they perform diverse duties. However, even now they do not engage in direct combat in the infantry and tank units. Perhaps with time, women will also start performing on the battlefield.
