Kashmiri women have decided that they are capable enough of being a part of the government. In the next elections, there will be a number of women candidates running for office. Women in Kashmir have always been perceived to be contented housewives, but this year sees the maximum number of women whose zest for doing something for the region is unmatched. Shabnum Ghani Lone, a Supreme Court lawyer, is contesting from a hotbed militancy region because the people want to lead normal lives.

Educated, Qualified Women

Seher Iqbal, a social worker, is contesting because she wants to make sweeping changes in the Valley. The amount of rehabilitation work that she has done in the Valley makes her confident enough to tackle this terror stricken area even at the young age of 27. Other women participating from the different constituencies are totally unafraid of defeat because what they seek is not personal power but the empowerment of women in the region.
