Syeda Hameed became the first woman in India to solemnise a marriage where three of the witnesses were women and only one was a man! Syeda herself says that the incident shows women want a sweeping change and do not want to be subjugated anymore. The clergy could not do anything much because none of the holy books say that only a male can officiate as a qazi. The protests then became that the women attending the ceremony had not covered their heads properly!

More Protests

More protests followed from the Shia and Sunni sect but Syeda had a ready reply to everything. When will the world allow women and people in general to progress? Shouldn't we be protesting instead against the inhuman treatment of people around the world rather than a small incident that doesn't really concern us? We really have a lot of time on our hands, don't we?
