The Haldi ceremony is organized a day before the actual wedding according to Indian custom. Haldi paste is applied to the bride by her female relatives and friends. The Haldi ceremony is held in both bride and groom's place. In the groom's house female relatives of the groom apply Haldi on him and douse him with water this ritual is meant to sheer the groom of shyness and as a good omen. It is a pre- marriage ceremony. Any Special Wedding Occasions is a memorable in the lifetime of a person.

Every young boy and girl eagerly waits for this very special day when they will be treated like a king and a queen.

India is soaked in culture and traditions. Consequently it is obvious that in India marriages too, like any other occasions, are marked by a lot of customs and traditions. A number of rites and rituals are religiously followed to this day when Indian wedding ceremonies are held. Haldi ceremony is regarded as an auspicious occasion by the Hindus.

Both the bride and bride groom are smeared with Haldi. This ceremony is also known as Uptaan elsewhere in India. Traditionally the would be bride wears any yellow color wardrobe. Nowadays brides go for any color. This ceremony is followed so that the bride gets a sparkling fair skin on the day of marriage.

A paste is made from Turmeric, rosewater and sandalwood. The bride and the groom are barred from seeing each other after this ceremony till the marriage day. The bride grooms and brides dress in their fineries and are surrounded by all members of the family and friends. This occasion is further enlivened by songs, dance, mehendi rituals and general discussions on love, marriage and after marriage commitments.

In India, it is customary for rites and rituals to be followed not only on the day of the marriage but also before and after and all of these are included within the corpus of Wedding Traditions in India. Each and every one of the rituals that are observed has a special connotation. Each have a meaning associated to it.
