Marriage is a social institution that brings two souls together. As wedding forms one of the most auspicious occasions of an individual’s life, it is being conducted keeping in mind the various do’s and don’ts laid down by their respective religions. The Muslims give utmost importance to the wedding ceremony, which completes the initial process of love. Muslim Wedding Traditions is considered to have one of the most complicated processes as compared to other Indian Wedding Traditions. The Islamic law describes marriage as a legal bond and social contract between a man and a woman.
Although a wedding contract is mandatory, it is not necessary that the bride will be present when the actual contract is made. The girl gives her father the authority to carry on with the legal process. Unlike many other marriages, it is a common custom that the family of the groom searches for a suitable bride and also to offer dowry to the bride. The Muslim Wedding Traditions offer various ceremonies which includes the Mangni. This is the first step to a Muslim wedding when the wedding rings are exchanged. Since the process of wedding starts two days before the actual wedding, the Manjha Ceremony takes place, when the Bride is applied a paste of turmeric, sandalwood and chameli oil.
In a traditional Muslim wedding, the groom arrives with his family and friends to the bride’s place. The wedding begins by reading out a selected piece from the Koran. The priest takes the responsibility of conducting the marriage process by asking for the bride and the groom about their consent. The bride with her cherry red shade and a veil waits for the registration of the marriage and then both of them are allowed to see each other through reflection by mirrors. The invitees bless the couple and enjoy the reception party. Muslim Wedding Traditions include the final Rukhsat Ceremony in which the father of the bride, give her hand to the groom and bid them farewell.
