Indian Wedding Traditions

The Christian traditions include the ring and the mass ceremony. The most important tradition of the Muslims is the Al-Nikah.

As per the Hindu traditions one invokes the Fire God to witness the ceremony. The ritual of Kanyadan (giving away of bride to the groom) is also a part of the Indian Shaadi and its customs and rituals. The bridegrooms are then needed to take seven circles around the fire which is known as the `Saat Phere`. The Indian wedding traditions are elaborate and complicated which needs to be followed when performing the wedding rituals.

Indian Shaadi Clothing

Your Indian Shaadi Clothing is always very gorgeous. The clothing has detailed and intricate designs which looks absolutely magnificent. Be it your own wedding or your family member`s or friends your attire is very important. Clothing can differ from different caste to community. Christians wear gowns whereas in Hindu and Muslim customs people generally wear saris and lehengas. One can wear ghagra and choli also or salwar suits for a wedding. The bride groom can wear suits or dhorti kurta. Other options include Sherwani, and Panjabi. The colors are dominantly red and shades of it. The color black is not worn as it is considered to be a bad omen. The Christians wear white gowns when they get married and the grooms wear black suits. The attires are very beautiful and elaborate in which people look splendid.

Indian Shaadi Songs

The Indian Shaadi Songs are an integral part of the Indian marriages. There is an elaborate song and dance routine in `Sangeet`. `Sangeet` is a part of the marriage. Sangeet parties are fun and very enjoyable. All the relative and friends start dancing to the songs. Popular movie songs as well as traditional songs are sung to which people dance, enjoy and make merry. People eat and drink and have fun with the songs which are being played. The shaadi songs enrich the mirth and merry making of the wedding. The wedding involves a lot of hard work and this time people can relax also.

Indian Shaadi Food

Everything about the Indian Shaadis is grand and elaborate and that reflects in the food that is served to the guests and family members. The guests are served finger food and mocktails as soon as they arrive. In some wedding tradition liquor is served and it is an integral part of the wedding. Food items like Dal Makhani, Pulao, and Shahi Paneer are the common items among the north Indians. In a Maharashtrian wedding one is served vegetarian food on washed banana leaves. Jalebi and Shrikhand are common dessert items in Indian Shaadis and especially among the people belonging to the West. Similar to this tradition is that of the people from the South who also serves their food on washed banana leaves. In a traditional Bengali wedding food items like Macher Kalia (fish curry), Begun bhaja (fried brinjal) Mishti Doi and Rasagalla are served.

Indian Wedding Jewelry

To look resplendent on your big day jewelry is a must. Jewelry for the D- day is purchased with great care. Many jewelry pieces are given by your grand mothers as heirlooms. The women are bedecked with jewelries so that they can look their very best for this auspicious day in their lives. Shringar patti is worn which is a kind of a tiara worn by the bride. Nath or the nose ring is another important jewelry piece worn. Besides this there are finger rings, toe rings which are known as Anguthi, and Bichchua. Mangal Sutra or the sacred thread is an integral piece of Indian Shaadi jewelry. Baaju Band and Kamarband or the arm bands and waist bands are other pieces of jewelry worn by the bride on the important day. Payal or the Anklet and the Hathphool or the Bracelet with rings are also worn by the woman of the moment on whom all eyes will be set as she comes all bedecked with various kinds of jewelries.
