Nahuel Huapi National Park is situated in the southeastern part of the province of Neuquen, while it occupies the north-eastern part of the province of Rio Negro in Argentina.
The park spreads over an area of 710,000 hectares. The topography and vegetation of the park is characteristic of the Patagonian Andean Zone. It consists of three parts- Altoandino, extending to a height of 1600 meters above sealevel, is perennially covered with snow; Andino Patagonico situated at the base of the Andes; Patagonian steppe. The park is landscaped by mountains, lakes and wooded lands. The forests in the mountain ranges of Andes are covered with cypress trees.
