Sweet Home Alabama is one of the best Hollywood films on wedding. The movie is not the usual story of two lovers meeting each other and getting married. It is the story of a married couple who realizes their love for each other after several ups and downs in life. Directed by Andy Tenant, Sweet Home Alabama is a pleasure to watch with your friends and family.
Melanie Carmichael (Reese Witherspoon) is an uprising fashion designer in New York. God had fulfilled all her little wishes since she was a child. The lady has a brilliant career and one of the most eligible bachelors of New York City as her boyfriend. Finally when the guy proposes to Melanie, she falls in a dilemma.
Melanie is reminded of her family in the south, especially her husband with whom she had no contacts after she had sent divorce papers to him five years back. Her husband refused to give her a divorce and she never took initiative to settle the matter.
So, she decides to get back to south for a few days and make him sign the divorce papers. But after reaching her hometown, meeting her family and husband, she realizes that the life in south is far more perfect for her than the glamorous New York City life.
The film is all about Melanie's realization of the truth of her life. Alabama is beautifully depicted in the film. The short tempered husband Jake is a darling at heart but has a very rough behavior. After reaching home instead of making her husband sign the divorce papers, Melanie faces the truth of her life.
She feels that though she is out of her house for a long time but still her home has a special place in her heart. Her life at Alabama feels sweeter than the time spent with her rich boyfriend and her illustrious career.
The cast of the movie has some of the biggest names of Hollywood associated with it. Special mention must be made of the lead actors who have delivered a commendable performance in the movie. They are as follows :
Reese Witherspoon
Josh Lucas
Patrick Dempsey
Candice Bergen
Mary Kay Place
Fred Ward
Jean Smart
Ethan Embry
Melanie Lynskey
Courtney Gains
Mary Lynn Rajskub
Audiences were spell bound at the lovely ending of the movie. You must have seen a plenty of films with a happy ending. But Sweet Home Alabama has a special ending. When Jake carries the apparently dead Melanie to the tent where the reception was taking place, the crowd is petrified. But Melanie's sudden arising makes the entire ambiance joyful.
