As the plot of this film portrays, Charlie McKenzie is a poet with Scottish origins and dreads making a big commitment like marriage. He even goes on to create strange reasons to break up his relationships. However, his nature later changes when he meets up Harriet. Harriet is a butcher whose first meeting with Charlie has him serving Harriet on a busy day at her shop. This is very important to Charlie, as it lets him to work in the same job as his Scottish father. Eventually, Charlie starts to date and finally ties the knot with Harriet. However, after learning from various vague, confusing sources Charlie comes to know that Harriet is actually a killer on the run, who is popular for slaughtering her husbands on the night of their honeymoon. Later, Charlie doubts whether he has made a grave mistake.
The story of So I Married an Axe Murderer was inspired by the producer Robert N. Fried. The story was written by Robbie Fox. The script was prepared while Robert Fried was an executive of Columbia Pictures. He was a famous and young comedy writer and director. He had written and directed a short film for Chanticleer Film's Discovery Program that caught Fried's attention. Myers brought huge contribution to the script, but his name was not given due to Writers Guild of America rules.
