Story of Monsoon Wedding- The Movie

The main protagonist of the story is Lalit Verma, the bride's father played by veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah. The story takes place in New Delhi. As the monsoon season approaches, friends and relatives of the Verma family come down to New Delhi from various parts of the world to attend the wedding of Aditi Verma played by Vasundhara Das which has been decided on a very short notice.

The movie is about how the father of the bride organizes the wedding amidst chaos and family tensions. There are many subplots that form the backdrop of the main plot of the story. The bride is shown to have an affair with her married boss played by Sameer Arya. As the story proceeds Aditi fights with herself whether to marry the person her father had arranged for her or continue the affair with her boss.

The character PK Dubey added a dint of freshness and humor in the movie. He plays the role of a contractor/ small-time wedding planner whom Lalit hires to set up the pandal for wedding reception and arrange the lighting and decorations. During his visits to the Verma residence he falls in love with Lalit's maid. Shefali Shah plays the role of a woman who has been sexually abused by her uncle in her childhood. She hasn't told about this to anyone until she comes to know that the uncle is sexually abusing another small girl, Aliyah. The scene which shows her revealing the truth in front of the whole family and the uncle and how Lalit asks the uncle to go out of the house is very touching. The story moves on to the final wedding day which coincidentally marks the onset of the monsoon season. There are four to five love stories that revolve around the wedding. All the stories are intricately woven with each other and commands individual attention. Although one can find a host of characters in the movie everyone is characteristically different from each other. The movie ends with the wedding ceremony celebrations.

Monsoon Wedding is a complete entertainer packed with humor, drama, romance and fun .
