The family divinity is the first person to receive the invitation card for the wedding.

There are different Oriya wedding customs which are followed as part of the pre-wedding rituals and the wedding rituals. Kanyadan is one of the customs which is followed in different parts of the country, including Orissa. During the Kanyadan ritual, the father of the bride gives the hand of his daughter into the hands of the bridegroom upon receiving the assurance from the groom, that he would take good care of his wife.
