Hum Dil de Chuke Sanam is perhaps the best film of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The tagline of the film says `Straight from the Heart`. Hum Dil de Chuke Sanam is a wonderful love story which revolves round the life of three main characters namely Sameer, Nandini and Vanraj. The multi starer movie features the biggest names in the industry which include Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and Aisharya Rai.

The story of Hum Dil de Chuke Sanam is not like the run-of-the-mill love stories. Sameer an Italian musician comes to learn Indian classical music from Nandini`s father. He stays at their houses and continues his education. Sameer was an intelligent students and picks up the traditional music skills very fast.

Nandini`s family was very orthodox and she was well aware of the fact that they will never accept Sameer. But love knows no bounds. Nandini fell for Sameer and the two started to meet without anyone`s knowledge. Finally when her family comes to now about the fact, Sameer was driven out of Nandini`s house.

The real twist of the movie begins from here. In normal Hindi movies the hero at such junctures starts to fight for his love and ultimately wins her back. But a visionary like Sanjay Leela Bhansali for whom film making is more than a passion, twists in the tale are as unusual as the maker`s mind.

Nandini is married to an unsuccessful lawyer and the son of a very rich man - Vanraj, who met the criteria of the preferred groom of Nandini`s family. The character of Vanraj is played by Ajay Devgan. Ajay has excelled his histrionic skills in this movie. Vanraj comes to know about his wife`s affair on the wedding night.

And then begins a new phase of the story. He is perhaps the first man in Indian cinema who escorts his wife to Italy in order to find her lover. While searching for Sameer, Nandini realizes that her commitment towards her husband is more than her love for Sameer.

The film ends happily with Nandini coming back to Vanraj and Sameer pursuing a successful musical career.. The filmmaker had dealt with the various human emotions in a brilliant way.

The audience never felt a single boring moment in the entire movie. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam became a classic love story with the aid of Bhansali`s expert treatment of the subject.
