The characters of both Shahrukh Khan and Kajol named as Raj and Simran respectively in the movie are supposedly the second generation Indians who were brought up in London. Whereas you will see Amrish Puri, father of Simran is a typical conservative Indian man who only dreams of returning to his homeland, India. Simran`s father however feels proud to educate his daughters in a traditional way. As this film is all about emotions, you will find that Simran keeps dreaming of her dream boy who would come one day and would take her away in marriage. She even imagines about him and writes verses on him.

Unfortunately Simran`s wedding was pre-arranged by her father with his best friend`s son Kuljeet in their childhood. As Simran was born and brought up in a conservative family, she did not even dare to go against her father`s decision. Instead she asks for permission from her father to go on a trip to Europe with her friends before marrying a complete stranger. On her trip to Europe, Simran comes across a handsome young man. This guy was none other than Raj who falls deeply in love with her and at the end of their trip, Simran also realizes the same.

As soon as this happened, Simran expresses her love towards Raj to her mother. Mistakenly it was overheard by Simran`s father and he decides to leave for India as soon as possible and settle the marriage of Simran with Kuljeet. Simran`s family returns to Punjab and starts preparing for her marriage. In the meantime Raj happens to contact Simran privately and ensures Simran, that he will help her out from this problem. With all his courageous deeds and disclosing Kuljeet`s motive, he helped Simran`s father to realize his mistake. The movie ends on a happy note with the union of Simran and Raj.
