Along with the child feeling good about making something for dad, they will also learn about the benefits of recycling while they create unique portraits from scraps of fabric and odds and ends that would normally be thrown away. Experiment with other types of materials like shapes cut from product packaging, empty nut shells and old buttons.
What you'll need:
- 9" x 12" cardboard rectangle
- 5" or 6" cardboard circle
- Odds and ends: wire, fabric, yarn, bottle caps, foam rubber, colored paper
- Glue
- Hole punch
Glue the cardboard circle onto the rectangle as the head. Add hair, facial features and other details made from the odds and ends. Make it look just like dad. Don't forget the moustache if he has one! Glue a border of yarn or paper around the edge of the rectangle. Punch two holes at the top and tie on a yarn hanger.
