Father's day

I still hear the voice….
Waking me up for school. Bundling me into the car and dropping me there, the days I missed the school bus. Chiding me. Guiding me. Calling me in to finish my homework, when all that I wanted to do, was play! Holding my hand whilst the doctor gave me an injection. Your words of encouragement, every time I had a setback in life. Talking to me, until late,on nights I was afraid to sleep. Scolding me when I did wrong. Your hoarse voice on the phone, always wanting to know how I was. Undiluted love, always.
You were the first man in my life, Dad!
All the while, I was learning lessons that you never really "taught"!

The first Father's Day was observed on June 19th 1910, by Mrs. John B.Dodd of Washington. She wanted to honour her father, for his strength and selflessness, in raising her single-handedly, after the death of her mother.
In 1924 Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national celebration of Father's Day. Today, it is celebrated the world over.

A time to think back, and reflect.
A time to say " Thank You Dad".
A time to appreciate and express: a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, a letter , a phone call.....
