What's your parenting style?

What's your parenting style? The kind of emotions you portray while dealing with your kid, speaks volumes about your parenting style:

Nervous parent: You are always at your wit's end; anxious and not at all confident about your child's abilities and activities. Your child is also the one who gets hurt the most as you make him very anxious too.

Uninterested parent: You are uninterested in either the child or its activity. You are lazy enough to not act unless something drastic happens - like if your child gets injured.

Grumpy parent: You find fault with each and everything. Be it the choice of your kid's clothes, the way he eats his food or the activity he indulges in.

Super-fit parent: You are one to wear a cropped top and cycling shorts to challenge your kid to the races. Relax! Let your child develop his own individual personality by doing things he wants to do at his pace.

Build a strong immune system for your kids

Adopting healthy habits is what is needed to shake off infections easily. Here's how you can go about it:

Insist on basic hygiene - Apart from daily baths and brushing the teeth, washing of hands before eating and after going to the toilet is imperative.

Regularise bedtime - Early to sleep and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

Give him healthy food - Fresh fruits and vegetables is what your kiddo should have in abundance as it contains antioxidant vitamins and minerals. Avoid like the plague all sugary drinks and crisps.

Encourage keep-fit activities - Like swimming, hiking, walking or playing a ball game.

Break the language barrier

You kid's tantrum may anger you or drive you nuts but learn to know the underlying cause for it. For a better mother-child relationship, understand why a kid throws a tantrum:

  • He is seeking your attention
  • He is tired, hungry and stressed out
  • He doesn't know how to express his needs, or love to you.
  • He is irritated by the bright lights and noise ( in crowded areas)
  • He's scared. He needs you to hold and comfort him.
