Feeling depressed? The old advice to beef up your social life by taking a class or joining a club may not be the best antidote. A study found that simply having more people in your life wasn't enough to fend off depression or boost your sense of well being. The sense of belonging - fitting in with and feeling valued by the people around you, matters a lot. So, beat your blues by getting involved - join a committee or call a friend and listen to her troubles.
