When we pin all our emotions to one aspect of our lives, we are denying ourselves a lot. Man was never meant to be uni dimensional. We have the brain and emotion that allows us to fill our lives with various kinds of interests and activities.
Which is why it is important that we pay attention to all of them. It helps us deal better with our family and friends. It helps us lead a more balanced life.
Take your profession, for instance. It is an important part of your life. But is there all there is to you? Would all your happiness in life depend on whether you were successful at work or not? If you didn't reach the level of success you aimed at, would you dub your life a failure?
People who pin all their hopes on a single facet in life are rarely happy in their relationships. Their happiness in their relationships would depend on how happy they are in the area of their life that gets all the focus.
This attitude makes them blind to the pleasures of family life and various relationships. They put all their eggs into the same basket. And when that basket goes awry, nothing hatches for them.
In some way it makes sense to compartmentalise our lives. Don't bring home your problems at work. If you've had a good day - share it with your family. But do be sensitive to their needs. And their emotions may not hinge on your profession.
The more you have in your life, the more happiness you are likely to get. Focus on your family. Have a wide circle of friends. Share some common hobbies with them. Develop cultural interests. Volunteer for a cause. Even when things go wrong in one area, you have other aspects of your life to look forward too.
