How well do your relationships work out in your office? If you`ve got a good gang of people to work with - it could make a tremendous difference to your attitude at work. You`ll look forward to going to work everyday, you`re confident and cool and you can handle problems with self-assurance.
But if you have problems in your relationship with your colleague, it could make your life miserable. How does one deal with it?
It`s important to analyse and categorise what kind of problems you`re facing at work. Is it just a personality clash? Are you just not able to get along with your colleague? Personality clashes augur ill for the individuals concerned and the company at large. It`s a no win situation. It makes your work life nerve-racking and trying. And affects the chances of a promising career.
Or is the animosity an issue-based conflict? Aren`t the two of you able to see eye to eye on work related issues? If it is issue based - you could turn it to your advantage. You have someone who thinks very differently. Think of it as a whole new perspective. Accept the fact that people could think differently and yet have some very valid points. Get together with this person and have brainstorming sessions. Compromise and combine your ideas positively.Generate a healthy work practise.
Think about it and see which category your problem falls into. Be honest with yourself when you try to work this out because this could affect your professional and personal life drastically.

Does this person irritate you in general, or is only when he or she starts talking about some particular issue?
If a friend at work came out with the same viewpoint as this person - would you react the same way? Or would you be more accepting, and milder in argument?
Do others think your irritation is out of proportion?
Whether is personal or issue based, to do well in your career, you need to be able to push aside your problems and work well with your colleagues. Just accept that people will be different. And that there is no need for you to personally like all of them - you just need to work well with them. Be polite to all your colleagues without exception. And use your energy in constructive ways. Negative feelings often rob you of the energy to get really productive at work.
