July 1- The name of the Indian Womens National Team has been a strike out from the FIFA list of womens world ranking. The principal reason behind this happens to be the inactivity of the team on the international arena. Not a single international match was found in the kitty of the Womens National team from India. The team hasnt figured out any performances since the last 18 months. The last international match played by the team was the AFC Womens Asia Cup 2008 Qualifiers in October 2007. India happens to be one among the 16 countries, which have been crossed off the list on grounds of inactivity.
The last FIFA womens world ranking was been published in the march, 2009 and in it India was ranked as the 50th in the world and the 11th in Asia. It is really sad that in the present list, the country has not just dropped 49 places but is finally out of the list. The number of teams in the present list comes down to 98 like this.
The Womens National Team Authority and the players have displayed a mixed reaction. According to Shukla Dutta one of the former players of the Indian team, it is basically the lack of co-operation, that has hold them back from proving themselves in the International front. On the other hand, Premakanta Singh, the national coach of womens team has opined on the want of tournaments to be organized by the AIFF (All India Football Federation).
He felt that the lack of tournaments is one of the major causes behind the players inability to display their talents overtly. There had been several other issues and one of the interesting issues happens to be that, the womens committee, responsible for solving the problems existing in womens football, hasnt met for more than a year. Hope that, FIFAs decision will act as an eye-opener and all the grievances and desires of the current players, coaches and ex-international will see the light of the day.
The country which is leading the list of womens world ranking is US and its immediate followers are Brazil and Germany. Some of the countries which were temporarily been out of the list due to scarcity of performances were Cuba, Jordan, the Maldives, Uzbekistan and Venezuela. The ray of hope lies in the fact that they have returned to their usual positions in course of time. The instance will surely guide India to the path of glory and they will be resuming their form as soon as possible.
The next FIFA women`s world ranking is been scheduled to be published on September 25, 2009.
