An expectant mother, whether working or non-working, has to face many daily problems in today`s hectic life. Daily problems of transport, traffic jams, work-pressures at home as well as in the office can create irritation and annoyance. If she allows all this to affect her mental health then it would be harmful for the baby. In order to keep her mind at peace here are a few tips.
It is a well-known fact that an infant has a capacity to listen and re-act to situations inside the womb. It is always advisable for an expectant mother to read good books that have a positive effect on her mind as well as on the child`s mind. Reading mysteries, horror stories, ghost stories, thrillers should be an absolute no-no during pregnancy. Reading such material can create anxiety in her mind that may have harmful effects on the mind of the baby. Stories or biographies of great people can be read for inspiration and boosting confidence.
Same principles are applicable while watching T.V. or movies. Violence, fighting should be strictly avoided. Watching excessive bloodshed can have negative effects on the mind of the would-be mother and thereby on the mind of the child. Light family entertainers as well as comedies are strongly recommended.
Listening to pleasant music helps in unwinding yourself. Hard Rock should be preferably avoided. Classical or semi-classical Indian or Western music is found to have very good effect on our state of mind.
To summarise, just remember the principles of Gandhiji`s three monkeys- "See No Evil", "Talk No Evil", "Hear No Evil" especially during pregnancy.
