The onset of pregnancy can be detected well ahead in time as there are many early signs indicating the same. While the experience may vary from woman to woman, the signs usually remain the same for most of them. Further, it is not necessary that a woman suffers from all the signs; they might just experience a few of them too. While one has morning sickness everyday, the other might not have it at all.
Missed periods: This is among one of the first signs indicting pregnancy. If a woman misses a period after having copulated recently, it is of utmost importance to conduct a test for home pregnancy immediately or visit their doctors. However, women need to understand, missing of periods can also indicate stress, illness, sudden weight gain or loss and birth control pills.
Nausea: It is usually called morning sickness. The woman feels like vomiting almost any time of the day. It can be experienced as early as mere 2 weeks after a woman has conceived. While some experience it all through their gravid state, some woman get over with morning sickness in the initial phase itself and some do not experience it at all. Nausea is furthered triggered in woman due to smelling strong fragrances like spicy food, perfumes or even cigarette. Morning sickness condition in woman is called due to the elevated levels of hormone oestrogen in their bodies.
Sensitive breasts: The breasts of a woman become very sensitive after 2 weeks of conception. They become heavier and fuller. In fact, they may also feel a little sore. Few women also experience the darkening of the skin around their nipples during this period. All these changes take place owing to the various hormonal changes ongoing in the woman’s body.
Implantation bleeding: It happens when fertilised eggs burrow into uterus’ lining causing its blood vessels to break down. This causes spotting and usually takes place after 12 days of conception. Women experience heavy to light spotting depending on their individual cases in this period. A lot of women take this spotting as their regular cycle and ignore it. It is important to understand that in implantation bleeding, the discharge is light pink to brown. It does not resemble the regular period discharges.
Frequent urination: Going to the bathroom to maturate frequently is also a sign indicating pregnancy. It is so because once the woman has conceived, her uterus begins to expand and there is an immense pressure on her bladder. This results in her frequently urinating.
Mood swings: As there is a rush of many hormones in a woman’s body during pregnancy, she experiences a lot of mood swings. While this might leave their partners a little confused, it is important for them to understand that this frequent changing of moods is very natural for the woman during this time. They need support and a lot of attention and care to be able to remain on ground states.
Abdomen bloating: There are many hormonal changes ongoing in the woman’s body at this time. This may lead a woman to feel bloated. A lot of women mistake this for PMS. However, if there is bloating along with a missed period, it is important for the woman to get checked for pregnancy.
Constipation: This is a very common sign of indicating pregnancy. It is caused because of the increased levels of hormone progesterone in the body. This leads to slowing of the movement of food passing through the intestines. This leads to headache, back ache and constipation.
Increase in the basal body temperature: If a woman has conceived, there would be a rise in her basal body temperature. This refers to her body’s temperature when she wakes up every morning.
Food cravings: In most women there is very strong craving for various kinds of food items during early pregnancy. In fact, they may also develop an aversion for some foods that they liked earlier. These cravings differ from woman to woman as each has their own individual taste.
Fatigue: Women who have just conceived feel very tired quite easily. This is an early sign of pregnancy. This is due to the rise in the levels of hormone progesterone in their bodies that makes them feel sleepy every time. Further, it is the lowering of their blood sugar and blood pressure levels along with the increase in their blood production that causes fatigue in many early pregnancies.
Dizziness: This is a very classic sign of indicating early pregnancy. Caused due to the dilation of blood vessels that leads to the lowering of blood pressure, dizziness can also make a woman faint.
Positive home test: Many woman keep a home pregnancy test kit with them to keep checking if they have conceived or not. There are many of the kind available easily at medical stores now. In most of them, the woman has to urinate on the bar given that may or may not change colours that indicate the woman is pregnant or not. It comes in handy when a woman cannot make a trip to the doctor and has to confirm her pregnancy. It is also very useful in case women miss to recognise any of the other signs that indicate they have conceived.
If women understand these early signs and get diagnosed in time, they can take care of themselves in a better way so that they do not have to face any complications during the course of their pregnancy and later during parturition.
