How you can perfect parenting

People with abundant parental support during childhood are likely to have relatively good health through adulthood. Those who lacked such support are likely to have poorer health as adults. Research has long showed that affectionate, dependable parents - those who made gestures or acts of caring, support and acceptance - produced children with fewer psychological or physical problems as they grew up.

With the early exposure children face today, raising them has become a challenge more than ever. But, there are ways to reduce the stress and strain of raising your and prevent behavior problems through good parenting.

Set aside a specific time of the wee k to do something together. A movie, a game of chess or scrabble, how you spend the time together doesn't matter so much.

Make it a point to eat at least one meal together. It's a great way to set a routine and bond. Discussing the day and its happenings will keep you cued into the activities and pressures of your children's lives.

Befriend your children by discussing family decisions. Their suggestions might not be particularly helpful at all times but your willingness to listen, will encourage them to approach you in times of distress.

Remember you are the PARENT. If your children express opinions that shock you, discuss it calmly rather than losing your cool or you may end up severing all lines of communication.

When you have to enforce something that your child is unwilling to understand, make it a point to offer a reason. They must also be able to perceive that there is good reason behind the decision, in spite of disliking it.

Get involved in your child's school, your neighbourhood, and your community. You, are responsible for parenting your child.

You cannot expect your children to grow up on a value system that you do not follow. Set yourself up as an example for them to follow.

Set the rules and limits for your children. Also make sure you specify and follow through penalties for breaking the rules. But be flexible and adjust the rules and limits as they grow.
