1. Help your child to collect some leaves or flowers. Provide him/her with a string/thread and show him/her how to string the leaves/flowers in the thread, to create a necklace. Alternatively, you can also give her beads for stringing.
2.Take a cardboard of medium thickness and cut it into any shape desired (circular, oblong, hexagonal, square etc). Punch holes at regular intervals all along the cardboard. Alternatively, you can ask your child to draw a figure or an object on the cardboard. Then punch holes along the outline of the picture that your child has drawn and ask her to thread along these holes. Your child will enjoy seeing the picture outlined.
For the older pre-schoolers, this activity can be made more challenging. Take a thick square piece of paper. Draw a one-inch wide border along the four sides of the paper. In the remaining space draw vertical lines at one-inch intervals as shown. Cut along these lines with a pair of scissors or a blade. Now take another sheet of paper, and cut out thin strips from it of one-inch width each. Give these strips to your child and ask her to lace it through the paper on which the vertical lines have been drawn. Once the task is complete you have a beautiful mat ready. If the strips are of different colours, they will form an interesting pattern.
