Children always look forward to the summer vacation; They look forward to being free from studies and tuitions, a time when they can just be themselves, relaxing, and pursuing hobbies. It is that time of the year, when parents too, loosen up and allow the kids to do what they want to do.

Plan in advance

You should plan well ahead in advance. Some parents keep aside a holiday fund on a monthly basis so that they can have a reasonable budget for having a good time. Whichever mode of transport you choose, make your travel bookings well in advance to avoid the holiday rush.

Before making the bookings, the family should get together to have a common consensus on their choice of the destination. It would be nice if you can read up about the place you are visiting beforehand so that you can plan you sightseeing visits.

Place of stay

While booking accommodation choose a hotel or a resort that has activities for children. You don`t want to end up in a fancy hotel which is not child centric. You will then be cooped up with your children all day long in the room, or will be forced to keep them occupied by taking them out.

Packing essentials

Packing for holidays is the most vital job to be done. Avoid last minute shopping. Involve your kids while packing. Place sturdy luggage tags on your entire luggage including your carry bags. Knowing what the weather will be like will help you deciding appropriate clothes. Carry a medical kit with you . If you are traveling with small children carry light eatables with you so that you can keep them in good spirits lest they feel hungry and you are in a place where you cannot buy them food.

Make a memory box: Bring an empty cardboard box along to store items you`ll collect along the way, such as seashells, rocks, funny postcards, and marked-up road maps. When you get home, label the box with the trip destination and date, and you`ll have a great souvenir of your time together.
