Items needed:

• a hundred watt bulb
• a foil lamp shade

• a box of birthday candles of different colours

Turn the edge of the foil shade outwards, all the way around, giving it a nice, big brim, as in the illustration. Fit this hat shape securely over the bulb. Switch on the bulb and hold the tip of a birthday candle carefully against the top of the foil hat.

A few seconds later the candle begins to melt and drips all over the foil hat. Decorate this hat by dripping all the birthday candles all over the brim of the hat. Then switch off the bulb and let the 'hat' cool before removing it from the bulb.

Now, create a face from an apple, orange, tomato or a potato using sketch pens or a pocket-knife. Make this 'little someone' wear your decorated hat.
