Teenage years - they really leave an impression - more so on the parents! Many parents don't seem to be able to handle their teenaged with ease. It almost seems like their just waiting for the adolescent phase to pass - to life can get back to being normal again.

Teenage years are an important time for the children. The kind of life they lead now will have an effect on them all their lives. So, it is important that parents do stay involved and play an important part in helping them build character and shaping their lives well.

What are the things that will help them evolve well? Let's take a quick look.
  1. Make sure they play some game regularly - they don't need to be competitive - but they will benefit from the work out. Playing team games will help develop team spirit.

  2. Never play one child against another. They're all unique in their own way. Even if one child needs to be chastised, it can be done without comparisons to the other child. Unfavourable comparisons not only build up resentment, but also encourages unhealthy sibling rivalry - which may last for a life time.

  3. Encourage them to set goals and work for them. Even if they don't attain their goals - it helps them tremendously in life. No matter how small the goal is - the child should learn to plan for it, and work towards that goal.

  4. Every teenager should learn how to handle money. Encourage them to do some household shopping. Make sure they account for the money. This will help them be careful about how they spend.

  5. They have to learn to play hard and work hard. Life is about having fun - even as they do their best. It is a balance that needs to be maintained. And they need to learn about it before they reach adulthood.

  6. Every teenager should learn the basics of cooking. Computer skills and cooking are two things people cannot afford to be ignorant of in today's world. Learning to put together a basic meal is a must.

  7. The power of positive thinking. Things rarely go the way we plan. But that's no reason to hit the blues or get depressed. Every day shows you another way to live.

  8. Valuing the smaller things in life. The things that really matter - are the simpler things in life. And once they learn to recognise that - life will be more beautiful.

  9. Caring for people. No amount of success and money can give them the same happiness as a good friendship can.
