The burgeoning anticipation and excitement is increased while parents bring their bundle of joy home from the hospital. They are all set to embark upon a brand new adventure which will give them pleasant memories to cherish for the rest of their lives. With a baby in the house, it is more like a roller-coaster ride for mothers – they find it exciting, engaging and entertaining most of the days and sometimes, it all gets a bit overwhelming and stretches the limits of the moms.
It`s because of the fact that a newborn totally depends on her mother for everything and it`s a huge responsibility to provide her the best of all that she deserves. Instead of losing control, mothers should remember that babies learn quickly and with the passing of each day, they will grow up to be more self-dependent and make it convenient for the mothers to ease through the process of tending to their babies.
However on the mother`s part, the first concern will always be whether she is giving the best she can to the baby. She will, along the way, get invaluable guidance from her family members, friends and umpteen childcare books as well blogs available over the Internet. It`s of utmost important that the mother stays in touch with a pediatrician and gets assistance from her/him from time to time so as to do her best to keep the baby healthy and happy.
Even prior to the delivery, everyone advices the mother to choose breastfeeding over bottle-feeding, weaning tips, solid food ideas, clothing types, bedding essentials and hygiene. While all these are important, there are other essential things that are often neglected because no one informs the mother about these particulars:
The umbilical cord naturally dries out and falls off by itself. Even if it is attached by a single tissue, mothers should not try and pull it off.
Bathing the baby is one of the trickiest chores and one should use plain water to wash and bathe the baby for first two months.
The water temperature should always be determined beforehand. One can either buy a thermometer or dip her elbow into water to see if it`s the right temperature.
Bathing soap or foam should be introduced slowly so that the babies skin can grow into it.
One shouldn`t use fabric conditioners to wash baby`s clothes and blankets as chemicals in them may irritate the sensitive skin of the baby.
Instead of baby wipes, use cotton wool and water to clean the baby for the first month and when starting to use wipes, one should ensure that they are not perfumed.
Baby’s ears don`t need the cleaning so using cotton buds is not a good idea as it may damage the baby`s eardrums.
Nail clipping can be a nightmare. One should use a bit of baby powder on the tips of baby fingers which will make the fingernails clearly visible and easy to cut.
These simple tips will help mothers a great deal in taking better care of their babies. And the happier and healthier the babies, the more pleasant time the mothers will have. They can better enjoy the first bath, first feed, first smile, first laugh and many more treasured moments.
