Learning is a lifelong process and starts right after the child is brought into the world – she starts crying whenever needs to draw some attention. As infants grow, they start exploring the world with curiosity – they eagerly see things, touch them to feel them and put them into their mouths to figure them out because by this time, they have not learned anything more than swallowing. The more curiosities a child shows, the more she gets to learn about the world.
It`s of pressing importance for the parents to clear the curiosities of their babies while nurturing them so that they become an explorer for the rest of their lives and keep on learning. As parents, they should neither stop nor push the toddlers to learn about their surroundings. Parents should understand that all babies are curios and have a drive to understand the ways of the world. They follow sounds, get excited by colorful objects and recognize the faces they see everyday.
As soon as a toddler learns to walk, parents become concerned about her safety and restrain her from exploring many things around the home. Setting up boundaries is important to keep the baby safe, but most parents get too cautious and become downright negligent towards their curiosities. While creating a borderline around the areas to be explored, parents should ensure that the baby doesn`t feel that she is in a pigeon-hole.
Toddlers spend the most of their times gazing at things that interest them. So, put colorful pictures on the wall as well as get them safe toys in different colors, designs and sizes. Toys must be given to them two or three at a time so that they don`t get very confused. Also, mothers should make it a point to rotate that toy supply weekly in order to keep it interesting. Furthermore, often take them outdoors to see the birds, touch the trees and feel the grass.
Mother instincts help one to know about the interests of the baby and follow the lead. If the baby loves music, play it for her and dance together or get her a toy piano to let her play it herself. Likewise, is she has an interest in putting things together, get her some clay to make different figures. Such things will help her develop her creativity and imagination. But one should not force the baby to play with something she doesn`t want to.
If she asks for a glass of water and pours it on the couch, carpet or even bed. Don`t yell at her. Instead, change her play area. Give her a glass of water to pour on the kitchen floor, balcony, bathroom or even the lawn. Saying no restrains babies from learning and one should avoid using this word. One should keep all the edgy and breakable things out of the reach of the babies so that she doesn`t have to say no to her. When the baby reaches the age when she grabs open drawers, lower cupboards and toilet seats, one should baby-proof them with secure latches.
Boundaries are essential, but parents should also understand that kids are free spirits seeking answers. With some simple steps, parents can aid to their babies exploration and learning process without hurting themselves.
