It is difficult to be a parent to kids, especially teenagers. Teenagers are immature and inexperienced in the subject called life, whereas they consider themselves to be at par with the grownups and want to act accordingly. One of the major concerns during this age is infatuation. Teenage girls are usually not able to differentiate between love and infatuation. This situation is faced by almost all teenage girls that they like someone, but do not get the suitable response from him. This results in heart break and low self esteem. One can help their daughter get over the infatuation with some tips:
1.Teach her the difference between love and infatuation
Chances are, your daughter believes that she is in love. We all know the feeling when that one guy crosses your way and you can feel the butterflies in your stomach. You want to see him again and again! Probably, the same is happening to your daughter.
It is important to have an adult one-to-one talk with your daughter at this stage. Tell her the differences between love and infatuation. Infatuation can be draining, both emotionally and physically. Your daughter is growing up and it is important to understand that she is beginning to have some physical demands that she cannot understand. Help her understand all these things.
2.Educate your daughter about priorities in life
Often so it might be the case, when your daughter is at a very important stage of her career and is unable to concentrate on her studies because of her infatuation. Such cases might damage her career irreversibly. You have to provide her with a vision to see beyond her current situation. Make her see herself after 10 years and where she stands at that point of time. Make her realise that her career is much more important than the guy.
3.Help her to socialise
Your daughter might become introvert lately because of the infatuation. You can help her in socialising by throwing a party and inviting her friends and relatives over. A little diversion from the guy might be productive and refreshing for her.
4.Make her busy
Adjust her routine in such a way that she remains busy with things all day, leaving her no time to think over the guy. You can register her in the courses she likes. Encourage her to pursue her hobbies. If she like reading books, take her to the book store and let her indulge in things she loves the most.
5.Give her time
Getting over an infatuation is not easy. Children are full of curiosity and hopes at this moment. It is not easy to make them understand; also it is important to make them experience this phase of life so that they can be strong enough to stand by themselves. Give her time to think over it. When your daughter is infatuating someone, she considers him to be perfect. Make ser realise that he too has flaws and is like any other person she meets. Most important of all, you have to take care that her self esteem is not hurt in any way during this process.
