Haldi is an integral part of the pooja. Pooja is a sacred ceremony in which a deity is worshipped following an elaborate process. Pooja is performed by the priests or the members of the family. Pooja is a form of prayer to God, which is offered with dedication and belief. Pooja is a means of paying homage, honor and adoration to the Gods and Goddesses.

Throughout the year we celebrate the pooja of different Hindu gods and goddesses. Durga Pooja is the greatest festival in West Bengal. The pooja is an integral part of the traditional culture of India. During the special pooja occasions the odols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are worshipped following specific rituals. In the Hindu families pooja is performed religiously one or twice a day by the members of the family. Usually on special occasions pooja is performed by the priests or the pundits. Puja symbolizes devotion to God. The Hindus offer pooja to the deity of the Gods. The pooja involves an elaborate ritual. Pooja is performed in a very sacred manner with complete devotion to God. The person who does the pooa takes bath and wear the washed clothes and offer prayer to God. The ritual of Pooja involves a number of steps and in every step certain pooja items are required. The pooja items are used in separate steps of the puja and each of the pooja items plays a significant role.

Through pooja we pray to the divine force and wish for the blessing to fulfill our wishes. In the Hindu temples you can see the elaborate ritual of pooja. Beside, the regular pooga of the Hindu families Pooja is also performed on special occasions like, Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Saraswati Puja, Kali Puja, Shiva Ratri Broto, Narayana Puja, Ganesh Puja, Monosha Puja, Homam, Satyanarayana Puja etc.

Pooja involves the use of a variety of pooja items. Some of the most important pooja items are, Idols and Sculptures, Diya, Garland, Mukut, Conch Shell, Asana, Betel leaves, Camphor, Gangajal, Dhoop, Peacock lamp, Pooja thali, Bell, Kumkum, Vesels and spoon, Chandan, Abir, Haldi etc. The pooja ritual helps to create and set up the ambiance for spiritual forces in and around us. The other pooja items like, Incense Sticks and Holders, Panchpatra & Pali Hand Spun Flower, Rudrakshas, Saligrama, Rudrakshas, Coconut, Janeu/Janou, Dry Fruits, Shankha, Dakshinavarti also play a great role in the ritual of Pooja and has its own significance.

Know about the traditions and culture of India. The poojas definitely has a great part in the tradition and culture of the majestic land. Know about the main items that are used during the pooja. The poojas, which are celebrated in a gorgeous manner, attract a large number of tourists from all over the India. The big festivals like, the Durga Puja, the Kali Puja, the Laxmi Puja are celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm with all elaborate ritual. The poojs involve the use of a variety of pooja items.

Haldi or Turmeric is a major item used in pooja. The purpose of using Haldi is mainly as a decorative item. It is used to apply `tilak` on the forehead of the deity. Haldi also plays a role as a cleansing substance. Haldi has a significant role in pooja. It is believed to adorn the mind with purified thoughts.
