How often have we wished there were more than 24 hours in a day? Especially when we are totally bogged down with work that never seems to get done! Take away the hours that are needed for sleep ' after all, our eyes do need to close for some time ' and you are left with about 16 workable hours in which to
do what you have to do. If you do not plan your day properly and wisely, you will be sure to lose at least 2 hours a day with nothing to show for it. You might waste time searching for something, miss important appointments by taking your own time to get ready, and in general, being totally disorganized. Where you could have easily multitasked with a little planning, you end up doing just one thing and sometimes not even complete that job.
Set your priorities
How efficient you are in completing your job is more important than the actual time you take to complete it. So plan everything carefully and set your priorities as that is what will see you on the path to sure success. Keep a diary and write down what you have to do during the week and the month in advance. This way, you can prioritise your work and know for sure how much time you can spend on each job in order to see it to its completion. Wherever you can, try to multitask. Combine jobs that do not need to much mental effort and concentration. As someone once said “Failing to plan is planning to fail".
How to plan your day
Learn to multitask. Become adept at combining tasks and try to complete as many jobs as you can when you run errands. For example, when you are commuting to your workplace, catch up on your reading, listen to audio books etc. If you are an extremely busy person who doesn't have time to spend with family, plan to exercise or walk with your spouse ' this way, not only do you get your exercise but also the time to interact with each other. When you prioritise, see that the important things that are likely to benefit you the most are done first. After all, as Goethe said, “Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least."
Time is precious
It is only when time seems to be running out on us that we realize that it is a precious commodity that has to be used well and effectively. Desist from spending hours as a couch potato or simply and aimlessly surfing the internet. These are not really productive activities and you are not using your time properly if you do so. Of course you do need to relax ' the big question is, for what length of time do you do just fun things? It is only when you complete the tasks on hand that you have scheduled for the day that you can afford to relax.
