  • Keep a notebook and jot down whatever causes you worry or fear about the next week. Cover every day of the coming week. Once you have written it down, put it away and don't touch it till the week is over. Take out the notebook and go through what you've written. How much of your fears have actually come true? In most cases, hardly any. Or the damage may have been minimal when compared to your worst imagination. In fact, you may have handled the situation wonderfully well! What is the likelihood that a life-threatening situation will materialize? How do I act in such a situation? Have I faced such problems before? If so, how have I tackled them? Ask yourself these revealing questions
  • Ask yourself leading questions about your fear. Be totally proactive. Are you the type who tends to criticize everyone including yourself? Notice the change in your attitude.
  • Stop assuming things. Assumptions will only make us unnecessarily miserable. “What will happen if my boyfriend loses interest in me? I will never find anyone else in my life!" or “I better be careful what I tell my boyfriend. If I criticize him too much, he might move on to someone else!" or “Maybe there is something wrong with me that I am finding fault like this!" Once you realize that your assumptions are unreasonable and not based on facts, your whole perspective will change.
  • Question yourself frequently. This will clear your mind and give you a fresh perspective on things. If it was your problem, how would you solve it? What can I do to make a difference? How would I look at this problem a year hence?
  • Some of us go into complete denial in order to avoid facing the problem. You have to recognize this and get out of this situation as you cannot afford to ignore any problem ' it might take a serious turn later. Try to recall instances when you have gone into denial and how it affected you.
