Her kitchen and her food smelt divine, right? Can anyone really cook like Grandma did? She never had a firm recipe to rely on, no books to turn to, and every time you asked, she would have said “ add a dash of this and a bit of that". Then how did she get things so perfect? Grandma certainly had her bag full of tips & tricks! We bring you some foolproof ones....
Tips
- Hate to see the bananas turn black and rotten in no time at all? Wrap them in a tea towel and store in a cupboard.
- Kitchen scissors aren't sharp enough? Sharpen them by cutting a sheet of sandpaper into strips.
- When you boil eggs in water, use the remaining water to water the house plants. Acts as a tonic for them.
- Lingering onion smell on your fingertips? Wash your hands with a teaspoon of milk and watch it vanish.
- Always keep a first aid box in the kitchen.
Tricks
- Forgot to soak the rajma / chana overnight? Soak them rightaway in a flask full of boiling water for about one hour. Works like magic.
- Cooking ladies finger? Wondering why it turns black after you cook it? Just add a teaspoon of curd while cooking, and see the difference
- Looking for fluffier omelettes? Add a teaspoon of water for every egg used ( instead of milk ) and see the amazing difference!
- Fast boil potatoes ' add a tablespoon of vinegar to the water and boil the potatoes
- In a hurry to cook dal? Add turmeric powder and a teaspoon of oil to the dal, before you close the pressure cooker. It cooks quicker.
