 Get some sun
Kids need sunlight. Give them plenty of time outdoors. Fresh air and sunlight will prevent childhood diseases like rickets. Milk subsitutes now in vogue, lack a lot nutrients present in natural milk. Take care to supplement your child's diet with a lot of calcium- rich foods.
Skin condition on babies
If a yellowish, red or salmon-coloured scaly patch appears on the scalp, ears, forehead, eyebrows or other places, it's a form of dermatitis (skin inflammation) that many babies get during the first 12 weeks. It's usually gone by their first birthday. Use a mild baby shampoo or mineral oil and gently loosen with a soft brush.
Sleeping babies
Babies sleeping on their back! Problem? Not at all. Just sort it out this way. Flat spots on the back or sides of their heads is caused by pressure on soft skulls. It also may leave bald patches in the hair. This problem usually disappears when the baby begins sitting up. Try laying the baby so the feet are pointing in different directions each time. This may help to have the child turn its head to different sides. Also put the child on its stomach for playtime and on its back to sleep.
Children & Pets
If you have a pet in your house, your child is less likely to develop allergies or asthma problems than kids who don't have a pet. Having a pet helps a child develop antibodies that protects him from these diseases. Just insist on basic hygienic practices.
Safety and the amusement park
Don't force a child to get on a ride he is afraid of. A small child may try to get off while it's moving. If your child is too small for a seat, don't let him ride. The safety belt may not protect him properly. Until age 5, children aren't ready to deal with the up and down and circular motions. Make sure you ride with the child to keep him safe.
Kids Age - Playtime needed per day Age 4 to 6 = 20 minutes Age 7 to 10 = 40 minutes A toy that teaches a wide range of skills and learning experiences is best. For a child having difficulty with a skill, purchase a product that gives immediate feedback. Remember, a child learns by using more than one sense at the same time.
Reading to your children
This is the most important gift you will ever give your children. Reading aloud gives them comfort, closeness, and routine. It encourages their verbal skills and improves their intelligence before they start school. For toddlers, pick books that are simple, colourful, and allow the child to hold and touch the book. Read especially at bedtime. For children 4-5 years, read stories that rhyme and repeat phrases. Look for stories that can be acted out or help with counting, colour, ABC's.
Calmer baby
Hang a wind chime over the changing table and the child may squirm less. Touch the chime and the chime will do the rest.
