Time again to air our collection of more tips and solutions from Grandma.

  • Soak about 8 ' 10 almonds overnight. Peel and have first thing in the morning. Grandma says it is a natural protection from many diseases.
  • Burn accidents while cooking? Just wrap some ice in a clean cloth and apply on the burn until the pain stops. You will be surprised to see that there is no scarring.
  • Stung by a bee in your garden? Remove the stinger carefully without squeezing the poison sac. Apply some moist baking soda on the wound. This will neutralize the poison.
  • Suffering from unseemly warts? Grandma suggests making a paste of baking soda with spirits of camphor. Apply every night covering t with a bandage. She says it is guaranteed to remove even the most stubborn warts.
  • Can't sleep at night? Make a small bowl of warm tomato soup ' remember to make it in milk ' and have it just before bedtime. Grandma says it will guarantee that you sleep like a baby!
  • Consume plenty of green and yellow veggies and fruits. The lutein found in these will go a long way in protecting your eyes from degenerating fast in old age. You may have supplements to complement these too.
  • Are you aware that the humble tomato can actually reduce chances of a heart attack? And if you have it along with olive oil in your diet, your protection is doubled.
  • Good dental hygiene will protect you from many diseases. Brush at least twice a day, floss regularly and rinse with a baking soda solution or salt water. It will add years to your life span.
  • Eating beetroot regularly or drinking its juice will not only help general good health, it is supposed to prevent cancerous cells from multiplying.
  • There is nothing to beat walking as a wholesome exercise as it is like having three hearts working at pumping blood. Though dancing and jogging also have the same effects, it is less tiring to walk instead, as it uses the same energy with less strain.
  • If you are a potato fan and can't have a meal without a bite into a tasty spud, just remember to avoid the green patches found in some potatoes as it is sheer poison.
  • Grandma always insists on cleaning all vegetables with cold water to which some vinegar has been added as this will remove all impurities thoroughly. The vinegar is also effective in killing the e-coli bacteria so use a vinegar dressing for salads.
  • To control cholesterol, mix 4 parts of apple juice, 3 parts white grape juice and ½ cup of apple cider vinegar. Take about 3/4 of a cup every day.
