Grandma's remedies and recipes are really doing the rounds! We have at last woken up to the fact that the remedy for most simple ailments and problems lies right within the four walls of our houses. We list here some of the contributions we have received from our readers. Dear Sitagita, I give here one of my all-time favourite masks that never fails to make my skin glow! My grandma always swore by it and truth to say she had a wonderful skin till the day she died! It is mild enough to suit all skin types and is very refreshing indeed!
All you need are:
- ¼ of a cucumber
- 1 white of egg
- 4 or 5 fresh mint leaves
- water for grinding to a paste
Method: Mash the cucumber to a paste. Add the egg white and whisk. Add water and whisk till it blends well. Apply on face and relax for 15-20 minutes before washing it off with warm water.
~ Nidhi Sharma ~ - Dear Sitagita, Here is a tried and tested remedy for dry and rough hands. I have benefitted greatly from it and would like to share it with other readers.
Fill a bowl with warm water. Add a few drops of lemon juice, a tsp of olive oil and some of your favourite liquid soap. Soak your hands for about 5 minutes, then rinse and pat dry. You will be amazed at how soft and smooth they have become!
~ Rama Devi ~ I have a remedy to share for a glowing skin. Needless to say, it was my grandmom's discovery. Worked for me, so I hope it works for others too!
Just take ½ a banana, about 2 tablespoons of milk powder, 2 tablespoons of rose water and mix these well to a smooth paste. Apply on skin and go about your chores, or plain relax for about 20 minutes. Wash off with warm water. You will be surprised at the results - warm, glowing skin that simply radiates good health!
~ Ashalata P ~ I discovered that the eye drops visine which are used to take the redness out of eyes work equally well on zits! Just dab the zits with visine and wash after some time! It no longer looks raw or red!
~ Maria Verghese ~ I have been plagued by darkened, ugly acne marks on my face. No OTC medicines were of any help. I turned to my grandma in desperation. Here's what she told me and which I share with all Sitagita readers:
"In our days, turmeric was considered a wonder healer for many skin problems. All you have to do is mix turmeric powder with natural, unperfumed coconut oil and apply on the affected parts. You will see the good effects of this remedy within one or two weeks." I tried it and hey! What do you know? All those ugly marks have become so toned down, they are almost gone! It is an all-natural method and does not give rise to allergic reactions. ~ Visalakshi R ~ Do you have rough skin that needs constant exfoliation? Visits to a beauty parlour might prove expensive. My grandma's recipe will stun you because it is really simple and so effective!
Take a handful of salt with you when you go in for your shower. Wet your legs first and rub the salt gently up and down your legs for a few minutes and then shower normally. When you come out of the shower, you will find that your legs are really smooth. The salt serves as an exfoliator and clears dead skin! ~ Sharmila Mohan ~
