Grandma always had a home remedy for that most horrible ache that totally lays you low ` I`m talking here about headache and migraine. Apart from gently massaging the throbbing head with balm, she would suggest various solutions that she had tried and found successful in alleviating the terrible pain.
Given below are a few of these. They may not work for all people at all times ` but certainly they might work for at least some of you and give you some sort of relief.
If you boil vinegar and water in one of those small portable home steam machines and inhale the fumes, you will get relief especially from sinus headaches.
Sometimes, when you go out, especially when the weather is cold, you are hit with a blast of cold air. This causes severe headache in some people. Mix some cinnamon powder with water to form a paste and apply this on your forehead. Bound to give you relief.
You may find relief if you can get someone to gently tug your hair slowly from the back of your head gradually towards the front. Grab for 3 seconds and release. Once this is done, start working the sides towards the rear of your head. Have someone do this for 10 minutes and you will find the pain is much better.
You can also try eating a banana when you have a nagging headache.
Sometimes, eating a really cold icecream may cause a kind of brain-freeze and you will get a sharp pain in he head. Simply press your tongue hard onto the roof of your mouth for immediate relief. If you tongue is too frozen to move, you may try using your thumb instead.
Grandma suggests placing your feet in hot water while you place a cold cloth on our forehead. This has helped me many a time.
Grandma always used to apply pressure on some pressure points with her thumb and index finger. When you hold the flesh between the thumb and finger, you will find a lump of flesh that gets held. The highest part of this is the precise pressure point. Press hard and move on to the next point. Ahhhhhh!!!! The relief! When you have covered your forehead this way, you will find the pain has vanished. I found out later that this is an acupressure technique!
