Hair colour seems to be in fashion now. Highlights and streaks are commonplace now. Amazingly there are home remedies for that too. Even though lightening hair was never a part of Indian ethos.

To darken hair to a black or dark brown: Rinse your hair regularly with strong black tea or coffee. You can see the difference in a few weeks time.

For a reddish tint: Mix equal quantities of beetroot and carrot juice. Wet your hair and rinse with the juice. Keep on for an hour before washing it off. Sitting in the sun for that hour will hasten the colouring process.

To cover the grey in your hair: Take a couple of handfuls of tulsi leaves. Add 4 cups of water and heat it. Let it simmer for half an hour. Leave overnight. Apply to hair next morning. Leave on till it dries. Then rinse your hair. Repeat weekly. Once your hair darkens well, you can do it less often.

Fruity combination:

Apply streaks of lemon juice to your hair. Stay out in the sun for at least an hour. Shampoo with warm water.

To make the highlights stay in for some time, try using any of the following fruity combinations:

Mash avocado and apply to hair. Wear a shower cap over it. Leave overnight. Wash your hair the next morning. The avocado can be substituted with a banana, honey or egg. Take your pick and apply it on your hair. It's important to leave it on all night.
