February 1 is being proclaimed as Freedom Day. Isn't that a good cause for a celebration?
There's more to freedom than indigenous rule. There's more to shackles than foreign rule.
What we really need freedom from is our own complexities and confusions. We tend to lug around excessive emotional baggage. We turn ourselves into beasts of burden.
It's time to be free again. Think of freedom as something you give yourself every day of the week.
Free from unrealistic expectations. Revel in the knowledge that it's fine to be a normal run of the mill person.
Free from perfection. If God wanted us to be perfect, he would have made us that way. Accept yourself the way you are.
Freedom from neglect. It's slavish to neglect your soul and indulge your bank balance.
Freedom from restrictions. When you won't dare do what you want because you care too much about what others might think.
Freedom from the inhibition that curtails your fun. Don't let dos and don'ts dictate your life.
Freedom from hatred. Let it make place for love instead.
Freedom from anger. Wouldn't you rather settle for love and laughter?
Live and let live - that's what true freedom is all about. Make every day a 'freedom' day.
