Most Christians are very particular about Lent. What is the period of Lent all about?
Lent is about focussing your energies towards God and his teachings. It`s about spiritual renewal.
It`s about learning to go without, to sacrifice and to give generously to the needy. To love and to serve.
It`s about getting away from worldly indulgences. Are we too dependent on the pleasures of life? Lent is the time you prove to yourself that you are not addicted to material extravagance. That you can do without self-gratification.
Lent is the period when we need to look inwards and realise the greater purpose of life. When we should open our hearts to `Him` and cleanse ourselves of our sins and our sorrows.
Where are we going wrong in life? Are we lacking in spirituality, in kindness or generosity? This is the time to look within, make amends and become a better person.
Christians usually fast during this period. They abstain from alcohol too.
The spirit of fellowship and equality is evident during the period of Lent. And charity is the spirit of the season.
Lent is not about celebration. It is about realisation of God within every person and respecting that divinity in all of mankind.
