Here are some ideas on how to dye Easter eggs naturally. Most of the ingredients can be found in your fridge. If not, ask mom or dad to pick your natural dyes from the local sabzi wallah!

The eggs

You can use either hard boiled eggs or 'blown' eggs. (Blown eggs are very popular in Germany and Austria). Remember, if you want to eat your Easter eggs, hard boiled ones must be kept refrigerated. If, however, you want to preserve your Easter Eggs for posterity, then use 'blown' eggs.

To Make 'Blown Eggs'

To make a blown egg, make a small opening at the top and bottom of the egg. This can be done with a large needle.
Next, push the needle into the egg and move it around the shell. This is intended to break the yoke.
Now, hold the egg over a receptacle and blow into the egg until all the yolk drops into the bowl and the shell is empty.
Finally, rinse the empty eggshells well. Dry.
Needless to say, you can always eat the blown out egg either as an omelette or have them scrambled!

Colours you can use

Ground Turmeric will give you BRIGHT YELLOW
Carrot or orange peels will give you PALE YELLOW
Spinach will give you PALE GREEN
Beetroots will give you RED
Coffee seeds will give you BROWN

To dye your eggs:

1. Put the eggs in a pan with half a cup of water and cover it with a lid.
2. Add about a teaspoon of vinegar.
3. Add the diced fruit, plants or vegetables).
4. Let the water boil till it changes colour.
5. After the water boils, reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.
6. Remove the eggs and Voila! it's ready!

Hint:

For a darker colour, let the eggs stand overnight in the liquid dye in the fridge.
