The first day of " Shawwaal" is called Id-ul-Fitr, a day of great rejoicing for all Muslims. As a token of thanksgiving to Allah, alms are distributed amongst the poor and needy. By having observed the discipline associated with Ramzan, an individual proves that he has a strong command over his desires and tremendous self control. This achievement is considered a great victory for any human. Id is a day of sharing, caring and a day of forgiveness.
Celebrating Id includes the following:
- Adorn oneself according to the Shariat
- Wear fine clothing
- Visit the Id Gaah early in the morning
- Eat some sweet ( like dates ) before going to the Id Gahh
- To offer prayers
- To give charity or " Sadqa e Fitr"
When a Muslim establishes peace with Allah, by obeying his laws, he is at peace with himself. Id is a celebration of this peace.
