Researches and analysis conducted all over the world for quite a number of years have proved gender as a determinant of mental disorder.

For the last few decade mental disorder has remained one of the main concerns of the doctors throughout the world. Though various researches have been done in this field and new treatments are discovered yet in majority of cases the doctors are unable to discover the reasons for the mental disorder. However it has been found that gender plays a vital role in this regard. Researches have revealed that the women suffer more than the men when it comes to the question of mental health. Hence gender sometimes become a determinant of mental disorder.

The reason why the women are more suffering than men from mental disorder are manifold. The most vital reason may be gender discrimination which is still evident in 21st century. Though gender biasness is more common in the developing countries, such disparity is not entirely uncommon in the developed nations. The chief reason for gender discrimination is the lack of education and the prevalence of superstition which can be seen even among the educated mass.

The gender biasness has pushed the women towards inferiority complex which has resulted in the development of mental disorder. When repeatedly subjected to gender discrimination in the family it is not uncommon for a women to become a patient of mental disorder. Hence researchers often regard gender as a determinant of mental health.

Psychological disorder may also occur due to the inability of men and women to gain control over the existing social as well as economic surroundings. However the women are also lagging behind men in this regard. It has been found that women usually have a less control over their surroundings than the men. This is due to he fact that women are deprived of social status and continue to live in the shadow of men.Even in the 21st century you will find that the percentage of women who are economically independent are negligible in comparison to the women are confined within their household.

This confinement within a limited sphere has pushed many of the women to go through psychiatric problem. It has been found that most of the women suffer from anxiety and depression after they reach a certain age. Besides it has been found that women who have less income than their spouse may often face such psychological problems.

Gender is regarded as a determinant factor for mental disorder since in recent times this psychological disorder are more persistent among women than in men. Another vital reason for this is the physical abuse and domestic violence that women are so frequently subjected to. Prolong suffering from physical as well as domestic violence may result in development of mental disorder. Most of the time a woman undergoes a physical violence there develops a tendency of becoming a psychiatric patient. This is one of the reason which has compelled the analysts to regard gender as a determinant of mental disorder.

Again it has been found that the men who are facing such mental disorder are hesitant to take any medical advice. The number of women coming for advice or treatment of psychological problem are more than that of men.
