Meditation for Beginners

You might have known the benefits of meditation, but have never really had the will to sit down and practice the same. There might be several reasons for the same. But the fact that you are reading this page means that it is not due to lack of will or inclination. Meditation for beginners might seem a very daunting task. But actually it is very simple. While it is not just about sitting and closing your eyes, it is also not as tough as you thought it will be. Yes, you will face many problems in the beginning. Like, your mind continues to wander off or you begin to think of other thoughts. You might have known the benefits of meditation, but have never really had the will to sit down and practice the same. There might be several reasons for the same. But the fact that you are reading this page means that it is not due to lack of will or inclination. Meditation for beginners might seem a very daunting task. But actually it is very simple. While it is not just about sitting and closing your eyes, it is also not as tough as you thought it will be. Yes, you will face many problems in the beginning. Like, your mind continues to wander off or you begin to think of other thoughts. But do not get daunted by the same. Meditation does not mean that you completely stop thinking. It might not be possible for beginners to achieve this feat at one go. Those who are considered experts have reached the stage only after much practice everyday over months. But practice is the key to meditation for beginners.

At the same time, like physical exercises, do not overdo meditating. When you begin, you should not do more than five minutes, twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. In the beginning, meditating may even cause drowsiness or make you feel tired. This is only because human mind is not used to such a training process. It is more natural for us to continuously keep thinking. All the more reason that we need to practice meditating. Meditation not only leads to calming your nerves, but also helps to de-stress your nerves. At the same time, you will sleep better and induced with a general sense of well being. However, do not expect to feel these benefits merely months after you do the. A lot many factors determine whether you actually benefit or not. It also depends on what benefits you perceive from meditation. You will do well to go through self-guide books and articles available freely on the internet. There are series of books available in the market on meditation for beginners.

Here are some general guidelines of meditation for beginners. You must find the right spot for meditating. It is better if this place has a calming effect on you and is mostly quiet. Music might help you in case you are not able to find such a music. Chanting on a mantra or on your breathing might help you in the process. Try and meditate everyday for at least five minutes. At the same time, try and keep a meditation journal, which shall also keep you motivated. While reading up might help, it is best if you can get some professional guidance. Usually that works best for beginners. Or joining a group or a club might also help. In case you are too busy to sit and meditate, there are some other options as well. The latter includes active meditation which enables you to meditate while you are on the move. For instance, walking meditation is fast gaining popularity among people today. There is also other forms of active meditating such as while washing dishes, gardening or any other form of physical activity.
