Right way to take your medicines

Many of you take medications for various reasons and there is a prescribed way to take them but only  few follow the directions. About half the population take medicines the way they want that could be either dangerous or reduce the efficacy of a drug. When you are encountered with an illness or disease, your physician prescribes you a handful of tablets or capsules for a fast recovery and certain directions to swallow them so that they can do their assigned job with required efficiency. Taking medications in a  wrong way or as per your convenience can produce counter effects so you should always follow your doctor`s suggestion for preventing complications.

All medicines are different in their effects and thus they are advised to be taken differently such as some are taken with water, some with fluids such as milk or juice, some are chewed directly, etc. Some guidelines for taking medicines the right way listed below:

Tell your doctor everything:
Every time you visit a doctor for a regular medical checkup or during illness be honest to him. Tell him what medication-prescribed or over the counter you are taking. Also mention about herbal supplements if you are using any. In case your doctor has prescribed  a medicine that has shown side effects before, tell your doctor about that. As some medicines if taken in combination may produce side effects you should describe everything clearly to your doctor to prevent complications.

Know how to take your medications:
Don`t hesitate to ask your doctor about the right way of taking the prescribed medicines if you have not got it once. Double-check the way you have to take the medicines to prevent complications such as if it is to be taken with water or swallowed directly. The time at which a medicine is to be taken such as in day or at night also matter so listen to your doctor carefully.

Check the medicines label on the counter:
While buying medicines from the pharmacist, check if it is the same written on the prescription as one may get confused due to the running handwriting of doctors. Once you are assured that you have taken the right medicine, check their expiry dates as they could be dangerous.

For getting desired results from medications you are taking, ensure their right use. These tips would help you to get the best results while taking any medicines.
