Pans - How to buy the useful ones

Choosing the right and useful cookware is difficult at times. Cookware is usually divided into two categories which are traditional and nonstick. Both the cookware has their pros and cons. Pans are one of the cookware in which people can cook variety of dishes.

Like it is mentioned earlier that cookware comes in two categories one is stainless steel (traditional) and other is nonstick people need to decide which is best suited for them. To start with it is important that people first know the usage and the pros and cons of every cookware. Stainless steel or traditional cookware gives the best browning effect to food while cooking in comparison to the nonstick pans. However, the nonstick pans are beneficial when it comes to cooking food and then washing these pans. Food cooked in these pans usually doesn’t stick to the pan and washing becomes easier.

Foods cooked in the traditional vessels can stick to the surface if no oil is added to the food like eggs can stick to the bottom of the pan while cooking if oil or butter is not added to it. But it is not the case with the nonstick pans. Nonstick pans are usually pans that require less amount of oil to be put on the surface while cooking and it helps the food cook without getting stuck to the bottom of the pan. Apart from sticking of the food to the bottom the traditional cookware or pan can change color if heated beyond 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

In comparison to the stainless steel nonstick pan is definitely the best option if a person is looking from the perspective of putting less oil in food and washing utensils. However, nonstick pans are not durable as the traditional steel pans. Its coating tends to get off with time although some brands give the guarantee of permanent coating on the nonstick pans. Also, if a person is buying nonstick pans he should keep in mind that it can pose health and environmental concerns since the coating of these pans are made of chemicals like polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). Most of the scientists say that nonstick is good if used in a proper manner and similarly, manufacturers are making this nonstick cookware from alternative coatings to save it from PFOA or PTFE. Most of them are also using eco-friendly coatings.

Apart from all the good and bad things about the cookware it is important that before buying any cookware it is necessary to keep certain points in mind: Sustainability, Suitability and safe for the dishwasher.  There are several kinds of pans like sauté pan, sauce pan and soup pot. It is not always that these pans come into daily use but people can buy them accordingly and to an extent they can maintain a collection of these pans for future use. The reason of buying these pans slowly and steadily is because they cost a lot due to their usage, space and durability. So, go, grab the useful pans now!
